Hi Fellow Bus 297D classmates,

Enjoyed my interaction with you during yesterdays class, especially the globalization debate. Again, to reiterate, globalization and outsourcing should not be confused. Secondly, we cannot stop globalization, rather we should influence its progress in the direction that can lead to win-win situation. With modern means on transportation and communication (VOIP, emails, video / web conf etc.) globalization is going to accelerate, hence lets embrace it and employ it for the best of both worlds.

One area of my interest which falls under the scope of globalization is Medical Tourism. Globalization forces were huge enablers behind medical tourism. Along with my team mate, I have developed a business plan related to Medical Tourism and love to exchange the thought with similar minded students.

Happy blogging,

Nitin

  1. Nitin - You are a natural when it comes to bringing people together. After your closing arguments last night I felt like the whole class should have had one big group hug. :) Bravo!

As far as medical tourism goes - it is a fascinating concept. I would especially like to visit the Bumrungrad hospital in Thailand.

  2. I agree with Dianne. Nitin -you were so passionate about your thoughts though you had to debate from a different perspective as to your initial standpoint.

We did a project on Outsourcing and Off-shoring for Dr. Parks class and it was a great learning experience. We can surely benefit from Globalization if some ground rules are set which is accepted by both the Developed and Developing word. But outsourcing may not be the best thing in the long run.

  3. Nitin - We enjoyed the debate and you sounded really convincing in your closing argument even though you had a different perspective at the beginning of the debate.
From my personal experience, I don't completely agree with you on globalization and outsourcing being two completely different things.I think outsourcing is a by-product of globalization.
I had worked for a UK based financial Company which started off as an MNC, and had a tie up with local banks but they soon started outsourcing and setting up call centers because for them it made business sense to do so. So basically if you have the whole world, you will take full advantage of the situation.

  4. I particularly liked the 'twist' were pro students had to argue against and vice versa. Had to do a quick mental recalibration. Another lesson that one has to be mentally agile and ready to respond to whatever the circumstances demands.

I agree with Jalpas's comments that outsourcing is a part of globalization.

It is a form of enhancing the business efficiency by reducing the cost of doing business. For corporations labor is a resource and they will source it from the cheapest place. Else corporations are not working to enhance shareholder/stakeholder value and the exec team/board of directors are not discharging their fiduciary duties.

  5. After hearing Nitin's closing arguments for globalization, I don't believe that he is against it at all. He is probably an expert in reverse psychology that Dr. Osland played with us. :)

  6. Ya your argument was very good and persuasive. I agree the exercise was great and truly made us think from the others perspective. I was anyways 50 50 on both sides but it would be very useful for you to stop by next time and rethink from another perspective as well.

  7. Hi Nitin,
The debate was really interesting and I definitely feel that globalization has a mixed impact in our lives. I appreciate your response at the end. For a second,no one could argue against what you said.Although we all had different say on globalization and its effects, speaking for the opposite view was something that was not expected. The twist really helped in exploring our thoughts on something that we would not agree.
